LASER SKIN RESURFACING IN CORAL GABLES

OVERVIEW

Over the course of our lifetimes, the skin is exposed to a number of damaging elements, including environmental pollution and sun damage. In addition, factors such as aging, eating and drinking habits, and smoking can all take a toll on the skin, leading to fine lines, wrinkles and/or discoloration. Those who experience these side effects can often look dull and older than their true age. Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic dermatology treatment that can reverse these effects, helping patients look and feel their best. Board certified dermatologist Dr. Alonso is pleased to offer this advanced treatment at her Coral Gables / South Miami practice. Read more below and contact Dr. Alonso at (305) 403-1181 to schedule your consultation.

WHAT IS LASER SKIN RESURFACING?

Laser skin resurfacing is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment that uses laser technology to eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues. Unlike microdermabrasion and chemical peels, which solely target the outermost layer of skin, laser skin resurfacing also targets the deep tissues, revealing a brighter, youthful and unblemished complexion. Laser skin resurfacing can be used to address many cosmetic flaws, including:

  •  Sun spots
  •  Age spots/Brown spots
  •  Acne scars
  •  Fine lines / wrinkles
  •  Hyperpigmentation
  •  Enlarged pores
  •  Unwanted birthmarks

Dr. Alonso is committed to the highest standards of patient safety and cosmetic results and uses the most advanced fractional lasers to produce beautiful, natural-looking results. This treatment is an attractive option for patients who are experiencing mild signs of aging but are not yet ready to undergo a more comprehensive procedure such as facelift or brow lift.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING TECHNOLOGY

Dr. Alonso uses the most advanced laser skin resurfacing tools, including the Pearl Fractional laser by Cutera. The Pearl Fractional laser uses heat to create tiny holes beneath the skin; this removes sun-damage and encourages the growth of collagen to reveal healthy, more youthful-looking skin. This laser can be used on all areas of the face, including the most sensitive tissues around the eyes and mouth.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

Laser skin resurfacing is appropriate for patients who are in good health and over the age of 18. The treatment is not intended for patients who are exhibiting extremely deep wrinkles or excessive sagging of the skin. In addition, patients who have active acne should seek acne treatment prior to the laser skin resurfacing procedure. During a consultation, Dr. Alonso evaluates each patient’s health history and skin condition to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure. She also explains all benefits and risks of laser skin resurfacing, and addresses any patient questions or concerns.

THE LASER SKIN RESURFACING PROCEDURE

Laser skin resurfacing is performed on an outpatient basis at Dr. Alonso’s Coral Gables office. Depending on the laser treatment, Dr. Alonso may administer topical anesthesia to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. She then uses the Pearl Fractional laser, which uses heat to target the area being treated. The laser works to remove the top layer of skin while simultaneously penetrating the deeper dermis. This stimulates the growth of new collagen, which works to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. In the days and weeks after the procedure, patients will notice a new layer of skin that is smoother and more firm. The length of the laser skin resurfacing treatment will vary based on the size of the area being treated and the severity of the wrinkles. Pearl Fractional Laser treatment is typically a one-time treatment that yields dramatic results that patients desire.

RECOVERING FROM LASER SKIN RESURFACING

Coral Gables laser skin resurfacing patients who undergo treatment with the Pearl Fractional laser may experience swelling, redness and discomfort in the hours after the procedure. Recovery will vary from patient to patient depending on their skin sensitivity as well as the tool used during treatment. Patients who undergo treatment with the Pearl Fractional laser typically need about one week to recover. The treated area will remain red for up to two weeks, during which time it is important that patients avoid picking at it. It is also important for patients to avoid extensive sun exposure for several weeks after the procedure, as the new skin is particularly sensitive. Dr. Alonso provides thorough post-procedure instructions to ensure a fast and comfortable recovery. She is also available around the clock to address any questions or concerns that may arise.
